ICE Investigators Use Private Database Covering Millions of Individuals to Pursue Immigration Violations

Raymond G. Lahoud of Norris McLaughlin writes:

According to Georgetown Law researchers, United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers have bought private data containing millions of individuals’ phone, water, electricity, and other utility records. ICE will use these records to pursue immigration violations. ICE’s use of this private data shows how government agencies exploit commercial data to gain access to information that they are not to compile themselves.
The Private Database
CLEAR, a database company owned by Thomson Reuters, sells “legal investigation software solutions” to a broad range of companies and public agencies.

The premise I have is that AI will underpin all business processes and practices and will be more than the new electricity in our organizations, rather it will be like the new oxygen, in every business process, every software system, every infrastructure, and eventually hard wired into every human.

Google launches a new app that connects nearby devices without Bluetooth, Internet connection

In case you don’t know, WiFi Aware is Neighbor Awareness Networking (NAN) that lets smartphones running Android 8 and later versions to “discover and connect directly to each other without any other type of connectivity between them.”

Google has found a new way to keep nearby smartphones and users connected as it has launched its “WifiNanScan App”. This is not for end users but it will eventually affect their day to day usage, as reported by 9to5Google. The “WifiNanScan App” is meant for developers so they can experiment with WiFi Aware.

In case you don’t know, WiFi Aware is Neighbor Awareness Networking (NAN) that lets smartphones running Android 8 and later versions to “discover and connect directly to each other without any other type of connectivity between them.” The API discovers the nearby devices and creates a network for sharing data or sending short messages.
